Today, at the AAUP office, we received the fact finder’s report on the comparable institutions that will be used in the remaining fact finding hearings (the full report can be viewed as a PDF attachment below).

These 7 institutions are:

Akron (MAC)
Kent State (MAC)
Toledo (MAC)
Central Michigan (MAC)
Western Michigan (MAC)
Ball State (MAC)
Grand Valley State (Administration list)

In our fact-finding presentation (which is on our website at http://emuprofessors.org/node/240 [1]), we suggested 7 institutions at the end of our presentation (5 from the MAC and 2 others). Why did we do this? The fact finder indicated that he believed the final list should only include 5 to 7 institutions. The MAC has 12 other institutions besides EMU, and we outlined why some of the MAC schools were not appropriate, based on criteria such as size and student profile. That is how we arrived at our final list of 7, and we are very pleased that 6 of those 7 were chosen by the fact finder.

The following conclusions can be reached by reading the fact finders report (we will be putting the report on our website,
www.emuprofessors.org, as a pdf file this weekend):

. All 5 universities from the MAC that the AAUP recommended were accepted by the fact finder
b. Only one of the 4 universities recommended by the administration were included
c. The report makes reference to the empirical and analytical approach utilized by the AAUP

Overall, this does not mean that the final result of fact finding will be in our favor. It does indicate that the hard work put in by your fact finding team has paid off. We pledge to continue that hard work through the next month. Our fact finding team will be meeting before classes start next week, in preparation for the first hearing date, February 13th.
