Bargaining Update 9/05/22

Dear Union Siblings,

As the Negotiating Team announced yesterday, we will hold a membership meeting on Zoom tomorrow, Tuesday, September 6th at 6pm to vote to authorize a strike. This vote will authorize an indefinite strike starting on Wednesday, September 7th. The Negotiating Team and the Executive Committee strongly recommend that the membership authorize a strike to force the university to bargain in good faith the fair and equitable contract that we all deserve.

EMU-AAUP’s attorney will be at the membership meeting to discuss the legal aspects of strikes and other pertinent laws, including PA 54, PA 152, the fact-finding process, and the status of pay and benefits during a work stoppage. The Negotiating Team will be in attendance as well to discuss the current state of bargaining.

The administration is attempting to force healthcare premiums higher than any other employee group on campus on us while proposing compensation increases that would, at best, cover the increased healthcare costs. They are proposing a pay cut for faculty and we will not stand for it. An injury to one is an injury to all.

We look forward to seeing you at the membership meeting tomorrow. As defenders of the university, it is time for us all to stand together in solidarity for our working conditions, for our students’ learning conditions, and for the future of this university.

In Solidarity,

EMU-AAUP Executive Committee
